Explodemon!

Platform: PC, PS3

Studio: Curve Studios

Engine: Custom

Released: 2011

Explodemon! is an explosive and tongue-in-cheek 2.5D platformer for the PS3 (PSN) and PC. Inspired by classic 8-bit gameplay, the main character's explosive nature is used as a core mechanic for both combat and puzzle solving.

When first joining Curve Studios, I worked on Explodemon! early in its production, and helped with early prototyping before moving on to Fluidity. After its completion in mid/late 2010, I re-joined the Explodemon! team.

I advised on gameplay and level design issues and also balanced combat areas, created and fixed puzzle areas, wired up entities (game objects), implemented the checkpoint system, set up cameras, as well as general bug fixing, game balancing, tweaking and polishing.

This is an example of one of the combat areas I set up and balanced.

The editor shot here shows a chain reaction I set up to unlock a secret path.

Total Biscuit's take on Eplodemon! while playing for the first time: "rather enjoyable"

He also touches on the fact that the very similar Splosionman beat Explodemon to market despite starting production later...
